Thinking NetJets? Think Again!

Ask people about private jet hire and one of the first names that comes to mind is NetJets. We aim to challenge that, and we aim to do so by challenging the whole fractional ownership model and asking what benefits it really offers. It's a dated model that in 2010 is being challenged by a global network of jet operators and charter brokers using new technology. The technology has allowed for a massive growth in worldwide aircraft charter as it opens the door to more operators, more brokers and more clients. Many people see a need to hire a private jet only once or twice a year or maybe even once in a lifetime.

The current charter market place is so perfectly designed to offer the maximum flexibility to those who travel on a regular basis or those booking a once in a lifetime family trip. There is little or no commitment required, no upfront or management fees and a very simple booking process.

The fractional ownership model requires substantial upfront investment and then attracts a premium for the flight time which many other operators are now well able to compete with.

The time saving and convenience benefits are exactly the same. You can depart with as little as two hours notice, you have the same 10 minute check in and you're flying on the world's finest jets and experiencing the worlds best service. Get a good broker on your side and it's like having your own flight and travel department available to you 24 hours a day.

If you're a regular traveller a flight account will offer you more guarantees of aircraft availability, lower positioning costs (the time it takes an aircraft to get to your departure airport), fixed hourly rates on agreed aircraft and a fully customised and personalised service.

NetJets don't charge for positioning but fund that promise with inflated hourly charter rates. If we look at a comparison flight profile for a regular schedule of flights from Oxford, UK, to Marseille, France and back again. On the likes of a Citation XLS, that's a flight time of about 1.7 hours. You'll be paying around £24,000 (GBP) for an overnight return if you go for a 25 hour NetJets card. You'll get 7 of those flights on your jet card for £168,000.

For the same overnight return on a Citaion XLS and, taking the worst case scenario, you'll only pay around £13-15,000 on a Flight Account with us. So, for the same 7 trips in the same type of aircraft you'll pay a total of £105,000.

£63,000 is a lot of money to pay to have a fancy card in your wallet.
