More Holiday Chaos

Travel Firm Kiss Flights has collapsed leaving more than 60,000 travellers with disrupted or cancelled holidays. Kiss was owned by Flight Options which ceased trading last night (17 August 2010). Kiss was a British based firm which operated flights to Egypt, Turkey, Greece and the Canary Islands.

This is just another in a long line of travel companies forced into closure by a decline in the number of holiday makers and the effects of the volcanic ash cloud. All together it paints a grim picture of the travel market and the global economy which many now fear is not recovering as well as has been suggested.

I believe that we are a long way from recovery and that the real state of the economy has continually been masked by over-worked PR machines.

In a week where Unite and the BAA have managed to avoid further disruption to holidays by reaching a pay agreement, the small glimmer of some good news again gets clouded by this collapse.

Once again however, the impact seems to be on commercial rather than the private travel market which is continuing to see sustained, slow but steady growth.
